Heiko Tiemann's photographs are soft, of a particular fragility and intensity, occasionally with disturbing moments but always composed with precision.
The exhibition catalogue shows the series of portraits called ‘infliction’, created over a period of one year in collaboration with children and adolescents with Asperger syndrome and traumas. The photographer's fine sensitivity in dealing with the young people and his patient approach is picked up in the book’s layout. Through the image bleed at the bottom of the page, the viewer touches the portrait of the person while turning the page and is touched by them. The book design is extremely stripped back in order to give the portraits the greatest possible space.
